About Us

Sheila was born and raised in Forida, where she started working in a small, family owned restaurant at the early age of 15. She soon became hooked and continued working and apprenticing while she went to Florida State University. One winter she went on a vacation to the Cayman Islands and fell in love with the island, as well as, a fine young man named Batty. As a result she ended up moving there and continued working in restaurants for the next 10 years. Originally from Langley, Batty lived and worked in Whistler after he finished school. He was a server, bartender and kitchen manager during his 5 years there. Then on to Kelowna, where he worked at the Keg for the next 8 years. One winter, he also decided to go to the Cayman Islands. He worked as a server and manager at a couple of the busiest bars on the island. After getting married, they decided returning to Canada was the thing to do. After settling in White Rock, Sheila got a job as sous chef and then head chef at Cielo's Oyster and Tapas Bar. Batty worked as a server and bartender at Pearl on the Rock, Cielo's and the Seahorse Grill.After much reflection they decided to open their own deli and catering company in 2009. In their first year open, they had been nominated for the Best New Business by the Chamber of Commerce.Because they hadn't quite put enough on their plate in early 2010 they took over the kitchen at the newly renovated Ocean Beach Lounge.Two years and two babies later they are enjoying their new roles as business owners and parents!Surrey Catering | White Rock Catering
